I was reminded of an incident several years ago. My youngest daughter was supposed to be taking a nap; however, she decided to get out of bed and explore. In her exploring, she discovered a set of books that her older sister had neatly placed between the wall of the bunk bed and the chest of drawers. As she reached down to grab a book, her head got stuck in the 6 inch space between the two large pieces of furniture. After realizing she was stuck, she started crying out for help.
Jesus tells us in Mark 10:15, “anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.” In the very next verse, Mark says that Jesus “took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.” Just as my daughter had confidence that I would help her, our Father rescues us when we cry out to Him!
Too often; however, as adults, we fail to understand that we can look to the Lord for help. We CAN wait confidently for God to save us, and He will certainly hear us! (Micah 7:7 NLT) Instead of calling out boldly, we look at our situation and worry, fear that we have really blown it, or perhaps we don’t believe that He really loves us enough to rescue us. My daughter knew she should have been in bed, she knew that she might be in trouble for disobeying; however, she had a more immediate thought, “Help me, Mom! I’m stuck!”
God desires us to take refuge in HIM ALONE, and He desires us to approach Him with a child-like confidence that He alone will help us. He is faithful, and He is Sovereign. The Message Bible says in Romans 10:11-13:
“Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, ‘Help, God!’ gets help.”
In whatever situation you find yourself in today, call out to Jesus for help, just as a child calls out to a parent. God knows where you are. He knows the areas you feel stuck in. Your head may not be stuck in a six inch space, but call out to Him. Trust that He will hear you. Trust that He will help you! He knows your needs. Allow him to take you in His arms today and put His hands on you and bless you.
Prayer:
Father, sometimes I am afraid and I know I need your help. There are times that I realize I am the reason why I am having so much trouble. Please help me. You are my only hope. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
